save-money-avoid-temptation

Saving money is not really something you can avoid forever and although it’s never too late, the sooner you get started the better.  There’s no getting away from the importance of money in this world for a secure future, and so the best thing to do is play the game as best you can by following a few guidelines and setting budgets and rules for yourself in order to reach your financial goals.

People are often very motivated to save money, but what often gets in their way is good ol’ fashion temptation. We’ve all been there. It’s hard to avoid the marketing and sales sometimes, but it’s those of use who do that benefit the most in the end.

Here are a few tips that will help you avoid temptation to a point where it gets you into trouble and stops you from saving money.

Avoidance
If you completely take your biggest temptations out of the picture then it certainly makes it easier to not spend the money. For instance, if your biggest weakness is buying shoes that are on sale, then simply don’t go to shoe stores. That doesn’t mean you never buy shoes, but only go when you need them and they’re within the budget that you’ve created for them.

Save on groceries
Bring a list to the grocery store and only buy what’s on the list. Do not give in to temptations in the snack aisle (or any other aisle). Creating a grocery list with a predetermined budget will help you prioritize the foods you really need and will help you stick to your plans and save money.

Leave credit at home
When you’re going shopping to buy specific needs, bring enough cash and leave credit cards at home. If you are tempted by sales on items you don’t really need, you won’t be able to purchase them with your card if it’s not in your pocket. This is a huge reason why people fall into the credit card debt trap.

These are just a few of the common temptations that people succumb to with their money.  You may have specific temptations that create obstacles in your saving money plans that need to be stopped, but you can probably use the info above and apply it to your situation. The idea is to budget, plan, and set goals. Then, practice self-discipline. You will be greatly rewarded with a financially secure future.

Save Money On Home Energy

save-money-home-energy

Saving money is extremely important if you want a secure future for yourself and your family. As cliche as it may sound, every little bit helps. When you have several small savings throughout the year, you can end up saving thousands annually that could go into an education fund for your child and/or retirement plan for you and your spouse.

There are several ways that you can begin to chip away at your expenses and save more money, starting with your own home. The great thing is that your whole family can share in helping with home expenses and everyone can learn the value of saving money in the process.

Electricity
Basically, the idea here is to remember to always turn off whatever you’re not using.
If the TV show that’s on in the background isn’t entertaining anyone, then turn off the television. Use energy efficient light bulbs. Don’t leave the computer on overnight. Put notes in the bathroom if you have too to remind you to shut down everything before bed. It may sound funny, but all the little things will be worth it when you save thousands throughout the year.

Water
Be sure that you don’t have any leaky pipes. No sense paying for water you’re not even getting. Faucet drips are also a common problem. Do you take 20 minute showers? If so, try knocking them down to 10 minutes. You’ve just saved half the amount of water usage in the shower. Don’t leave the faucet running while you’re brushing your teeth. All these things can really save a lot of water.

Seals
Check your window and door seals for drafts. It is very inexpensive to replace a broken seal and it can mean a big different in your heating bill.

These may all seem like simple things, but if you get in the habit of doing them, you will notice a big difference on your home utility bills.

How To Save Money On Gas

save-money-on-gas

It looks like the high price of gasoline is here to stay with us for quite some time. For people who are already on a tight budget, higher gas prices can be a big dent in the budget, especially since it is essentially a new cost without any additional income (unless you happened to get a raise when the price of gas went up).

Many people lterally have no choice but to find ways to save money on gas. Here are a few tips that are working for others:

Carpooling
It doesn’t matter if you’re an employee or a student, it makes sense to carpool if you have friends/associates that have the same destination. In addition to the money you’ll save on gas, you’ll be doing the the environment a favor as well!

Commuting
If you live in an area where getting to work on public transportation is easy with frequent travel times available, then why not jump on board? You can relax, read a good book, or even take a nap if you didn’t get enough sleep the night before.

Exercise
Have you thought about the option of walking, jogging, rollerblading, or riding a bicycle to work? Not only will you save money on gas, but you’ll be healthier and feel great.

Car maintenance
If you choose to keep driving the same amount as you always have, then at least keep your car in good running condition to help save money on gas. Also, be sure to regularly check your tire pressure. If you have unequal pressure in the tires, it can have quite a negative effect on gas consumption.

save money on credit cards

The convenience of holding a credit card provides advantages like not having to carry cash, shopping online with ease, and the basic feeling of security if you ever run into an emergency that requires temporary credit. However, there are also disadvantages.
Because you can act on impulse purchases a lot easier with a piece of plastic than you can using your own cash, or by taking the last $100 out of your bank account, it can sometimes get you trouble.

Here are a few tips and guidelines you can use to manage your credit cards without increasing your debt to a point of no return.

Organization is your best friend
The first thing you want to do is get organized and stay that way. Always double check your credit card statements for mistakes and ensure that you’re not being over billed or charged for something you didn’t buy. File your statements neatly for future records/reference.

Are you getting the best deal?
Sometimes credit cards have an introductory offer that is a really low interest rate for a short period of time. Be sure you are aware of that and if the interest is now too high, you may want to switch to a card that is a better deal. Also, simple calling and asking them to lower the interest rate sometimes works.

Check for membership fees as well. If you are not using the benefits that the membership includes, you may want to research other cards that better suit your needs.

Pay your credit card bill on time
It’s a well known fact that it’s important to pay your credit card bills on time, but not many realize the effect multiple late charges can have on your credit report. Always pay on time to avoid tarnishing your good credit standing and also save money on late charges.

Manage your credit card debt
The most important part of having a credit card is maintaining a balance that you can manage. If you see any sign at all that things are getting out of hand, you must have the self-discipline to stop. If you do run into a large amount of debt, be sure to put away your credit card (don’t take it with you anywhere) and strategically plan a way to get back out of the hole.

save-money-with-coupons

The funny thing about money is that the majority of us find it ridiculously easy to spend and twice as hard to save. According to studies and consumer surveys, most of us can’t even find a way to save 10% of our icome because our expenses always have us at the limit.

The truth of the matter is, it’s quite possible for most people to cut their daily expenses significantly if they just know how, and folow a few tips, tricks, and guidelines.

One of the most useful ways to cut back on your regular expenses is to use discount, money saving coupons. Many people are under the false impression that coupons allow you to save so little that it is hardly worth the effort.

If you are one of the ones who feel this way about coupons, here is a few tips on how to use coupons effectively on a regular basis.

  • Look for money saving coupons in the right places
Look in your local newspaper for coupons and flyers, but also make sure to pick up different editions of the Sunday paper. Some stores only promote in specific papers. Picking up one of each will be worth it as it will save you many more times the cost of a paper.
  • Shop online for coupons and extra savings
Many times, online businesses will provide you extra savings than you would get at the local store. On top of that, even online versions of the local store may provide you with exclusive coupons from their website.
Best of all, you can often sign up for newsletters for notifications of deals and exclusive offers that save you even more.
  • Just try it
The biggest reason people don’t think that coupons save them enough money is because they haven’t even tried it yet.  Do it for a big grocery shop that you normally do, except do your best to find the most bargains you can with coupons about a few days prior to when you’ll be doing the shopping. See for yourself how much you save!
